ABSTENTION (+) . ‒ I strongly support the accession of the Dominican Republic to the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. I believe that the UK should sign such an agreement. I do not, however, see it as the role of the European Union to instruct the UK in that regard. I therefore abstained as a ‘best fit’.

Ho votato a favore.

FOR (+) Palaikau Europos Parlamento pranešimą dėl Dominikos Respublikos prisijungimo prie 1980 m. Hagos konvencijos dėl tarptautinio vaikų grobimo civilinių aspektų. Visuomet sakiau ir dar sykį kartoju, kad vaikų teisių apsauga, tinkamas šių teisių užtikrinimas privalo būti prioritetas kiekvienai pasaulio valstybei, nepriklausomai nuo politinės santvarkos, ekonominės padėties ar kitokių faktorių. Dominikos Respublikos prisijungimas prie Konvencijos užtikrins šios valstybės bendradarbiavimą su kitomis Konvencijos šalimis-narėmis vaikų grobimo bylose, sudarys pagrindą didesniam aiškumui dėl bylų teismingumo - kurios valstybės teismas turėtų nagrinėti bylą, užtikrinant vaiko teisių apsaugos standartų laikymąsi. Norėčiau pabrėžti visų pasaulio valstybių bendradarbiavimo svarbą vaiko teisių užtikrinimo kontekste, ypatingai vaikų grobimo atvejais. Šiuo atveju ypatingai svarbu, kad valstybės keistųsi tyrimui svarbia informacija ir duomenimis, užtikrintų greitą vaiko grobimo bylų išsprendimą, užkirstų kelią nusikaltimams prieš vaikus.

AGAINST (+) . – International child abduction is an abomination and the welfare of children should always be protected. However the UK delegation could not support the EU acting as a ‘state’ in adopting the competence to force other Member States into accepting the accession of countries to the Convention. Member States should ensure that they are happy with the acceding country and then accept that they have adopted the Convention in a manner that meets their expectations.
