WRITTEN EXPLANATION OF VOTE (A8-0356/2018)

[EN] This proposal for a new Regulation for the temporary closure of borders within the European area in which, theoretically, we have freedom of movement, is not ambitious enough. Although it restricts the times for these suspensions of the right to free mobility and sets stricter criteria, in practice it will continue to allow the practices that we know of arbitrary closings or to prevent the entry of migrants from a third country, alleging security issues, as it comes recently occurring on the border between France and Spain. We believe that this type of practice is unacceptable and that is why we are committed to a much stricter regulation that guarantees the right to mobility at all times, and that is why we abstained from voting.
