FOR (+) . – I appreciate the good intentions of the AM from the Greens concerning AM84 and AM85. However, I voted against AM84 and AM85 because secret ballots should be preserved for votes regarding personnel. I fully support efforts to open up the voting process on legislation and promote more transparency in the European Parliament in general. However, in terms of voting for individuals for positions in Parliament such as Quaestors, Vice-President and President, the MEPs should be able to vote freely according to the conscience - and without pressure from outside stakeholders.

FOR (+) The DPP-Delegation was happy to see that the EP didn’t support the proposals aimed at tightening the rules on formation of the political groups that would allow the Conference of Presidents to recommend dissolving a Political Group if they believe it does not contain MEPs who share ‘political affinity’. This would open the possibility that the rules will be used by some MEPs under spurious and political grounds to weaken their opponents via the Parliament’s own rules of procedure to exclude them from certain functions. The DPP believes that it is up to the voters to put us where we are, not the other way round. However, there were other reasons for the DPP to vote against the report: The DPP rejected the proposal to adopt a gender action plan aimed at incorporating a gender perspective in all Parliament’s activities at all levels. Furthermore, it does not agree with the EP’s condemnation of the use of offensive language. The open exchange of ideas - including unpalatable, even offensive, ideas - is a hallmark of a free and democratic society. What we however cannot tolerate is that Members resort to defamatory statements and calls for physical violence.
