Objection pursuant to Rule 106: genetically modified cotton GHB614 × LLCotton25 × MON 15985
B8-0076/2019:

CASA
FOR (+) I voted in favour of this proposal because it is expected that these genetically modified cotton plants will be negatively impacted, similar to the GM oilseed rape and cotton. The cotton plant will be exposed to more herbicide, resulting in consequences to the harvest. Higher levels of residue may impact the composition of the GM plant and its characteristics, the results of these changes to the consumer possibly detrimental.

FOR (+) GM cotton GHB614 x LLCotton25 x MON 15985 is tolerant to glyphosate, glufosinate and produces two insecticidal proteins. Concerns have also been raised that the toxicological studies submitted by the applicant and assessed by EFSA are insufficient. I voted in favour of this objection, especially because of the need for further studies to fully examine the consequences of this GM cotton.

FOR (+) I voted in favour of the report which calls on the Commission not to authorise the import, for food or feed uses, of any genetically modified plant which has been made tolerant to a herbicide which is not authorised for use in the Union, in this case glufosinate, and take into consideration the effects that GMOs have in human health and environmental safety.
