FOR (+) The European Union – Latin America and Caribbean Foundation was established in 2010 with the aim of strengthening and promote the bi-regional strategic partnership, enhancing its visibility and fostering the active participation of civil societies from the countries concerned. I voted in favour of this report because relations between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean are based on historical and cultural ties, respect for human rights, common values and mutual interests.

FOR (+) Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union launched the ‘Bi-regional Strategic Partnership’ at the First Rio de Janeiro Summit in 1999. Their strong historical, social and economic relations, together with their shared values, formed the basis for this ambitious project whose primary aims are dynamic political dialogue and the establishment of a forum for political and economic exchange between the two regions. The partnership moved to a new level in 2010 with the foundation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). The Foundation has as its mission to strengthen and promote the bi-regional strategic partnership, enhancing its visibility and fostering the active participation of civil societies from the countries concerned. Therefore I have voted in favour of this report.

FOR (+) I voted in favour of this report which gives the European Union – Latin America and Caribbean Foundation (EU-LAC Foundation) the status of an international organisation. The foundation aims to create links between the two regional groups’ civil societies, especially by the organisation of events, financing of programmes and development of specialised studies.
